I've been a geek for years.... and so naturally when I read that the iPad only has 256 RAM, or it has a single core processor, etc.... I started dwelling on it. I started wondering if I should have waited.

Well, no sooner that I started dwelling I started thinking of what this thing WAS doing for me:

1. Flawless video playback? Check
2. Beautiful photo viewing? Check
3. Organization and EMail? Check
4. eBook reading? Check
5. Web surfing? Check

So then I realized that this thing was blazing fast at doing every single thing I bought it for. This was my netbook replacement and it has done it better than I could have dreamed.

So yeah... Gen 2 will be better, and at that point I'll buy again. But right now this is a fantastic ride... and I'm loving being an early adopter!
 
I think the iPad is an incredible product for being a first gen version. It's only flaw in my opinion is the lack of RAM, and even that is a minor weakness, but it would have made the browsing experience and gaming experience better if it had 512mb of RAM.

The only specs I was concerned about was the 16/32/64. I went with the 64 so no wondering if I should have gotten the larger one.
 
I also agree. I see tech people look at the ipad specs alone, and based on that say its underpowered and not a very good product.

Yet, when one actually uses the ipad, its extremely fast and does everything its supposed to do very quickly. So who cares what the specs say, as long as it works!
 
I actually use less space on my iPad than on my iPhone...

Why?

- I don't bother storing music on the iPad... since I have my phone with me at all times.

- No navigation software installed.

- Less applications installed.

16gb will probably do me fine. When I am about to hit the road, I'll throw a couple movies on there... and then everything else is streaming. :)
 
I think the iPad is an incredible product for $299/$399/$499. At $499 and up, it's still overpriced for it's capabilities. Had they actually been innovative with the larger UI instead of just stretching iPhone UI maybe. Had they added OS-X printer driver support maybe. As it is, no one really needs it. It won't be as easy to use (see "heavy" and "touch fatigue" posts) as a Touch. It's not conveniently pocketable/portable. $500 is alot of money in a recession year.
 
One number or another doesnt bother me much. Apple products are rarely at the cutting edge in terms of specs.

However the effect of those numbers does bother me. If I cant have more then 3-4 windows open in safari without having to reload the page (and lose my place on it) constantly... that really sucks and it could have been easily fixed with either more ram or writing some temp cache to the flash disk.

Yeah until iPad OS 5 comes out. Then you'll be wishing it had some more RAM.

I'm sure by the time OS 5 comes out, the next gen iPads will have more RAM! Apple isn't going to introduce an OS that needs lots of RAM and not pair it with updated hardware.
 
The thing I am worried about is not being able to keep more than 3 full pages loaded in Mobile Safari without reloading pages. That is really not a good thing given the way I use web browsers, but we will see.

256MB vs. 512MB at the cost of the iPad really seems extra cheap of Apple seeing the reports of Mobile Safari's behavior, but I haven't used one myself for more than a few minutes so I was just playing with it.
 
it is NO surprise now how adamant Jobs was about NO Adobe Flash on the iPad.

With 256megs of ram, the iPad wouldn't get out of neutral
 
I dont care how much ram does it have, it perform very fast in all the programs, and it kills my Acer Netbook in everyway, I play REAL RACING HD and it runs soo smothly with superb graphics, my Acer dual core atom processor netbook wont even play any of my car games. and I have 2GB of ram.

iPad 2nd gen will be better but Im very happy with mine. I havent touch my netbook since I bought my ipad.
