Hi all.

In the company i work for, we have been an all Mac shop for years. We have over 100 of them. Mainly iMacs. Our main work is done using Premiere and moderate After Effects projects mostly, along with Logic, a touch of Maya and general MS Office stuff. Starting to move to 4K work.

Budgets are tightening, and for the first time i'm being tempted over to the dark side of PCs as i see the future of Apple's pricing model and our budgets getting smaller. So I'd appreciate advice.

As it stands, we can just about afford the new i5 6 core Mac Minis with custom 32GB RAM upgrades. On pure benchmarks alone, while the processor is good, the integrated GPU is of course basic, and i'm wondering how it would work with After Effects and Adobe Premiere.

It would probably be 'ok', I know AE/PPRO is less reliant on the GPU than people believe, but i can't ignore the fact that for the same price, you can buy a much better specced PC with something like a 1650 GTX NVidia card. And i keep switching back and forth as to which to get. Apple's tight hardware/Software integration means it probably punches above its weight though.

Am i underestimating the performance of the Mac Mini? I'd appreciate opinions. It would certainly be easier to stick with Macs, but i've got to think of performance per ££ :) And we can't afford eGPUs right now.

Premiere and After Effects with Mac Mini's are not advisable. Only Apple-specific apps like FCP X/Motion x will it make sense to go with the Mini. I believe the iGPU will be leveraged using Metal for these apps.

Since Adobe is available on windows, you're better off with HP or Dell PC's, TBH. These PC's will also have beefier GPU's for After Effects and Premiere and you can go with a <strike>RTX 2060</strike> for them at probably around the same price as the mini you are looking at.

Don't OEM's give discounts to companies for bulk items?

You're welcome.

Please give me some money for this consultation. I'm broke!

Just kidding!

PS-- Or, Mr. Dell, can you give me some cash for the free advert?
