STUCK at Grey Apple Logo!

I had an issue earlier this week that my hard drive would spas out as I booted it into Mac OS X. When I booted into Win 7 via bootcamp, everything was fine.
I took it to the genius bar and told me I should back things up just in case, etc.

So I went home and backed up, but I tried fixing the issue myself. I partitioned, erased and installed Mac OS X Snow Leopard onto my iMac via Target Disk Mode using my Macbook. It went all awesome, but....

When I booted my iMac, it would get stuck at the Grey Apple Logo.
Fortunately though, I tried to boot it using Target Disk Mode and displayed perfectly on my macbook..so I don't know what's wrong with my iMac.

Any help?

Make sure your start up disk is set to the HDD on your iMac.

I'm sorry, but wouldn't that be obvious? lol
I even booted the hard drive onto my Macbook to test it and worked completely fine.

If I remember correctly ..target disc mode installs using the drivers and features from the host computer. There may be an issue due to the processor difference. In other words try doing a normal install from the Superdrive on the iMac and see what happens.

I'll try and see what happens..but note that I cannot see anything on the screen when I boot into my iMac.

i forgot. I've actually tried doing that in the first place, but it does the same thing..it gets stuck in the Apple Logo.

try repairing the disks permissions when it's in target mode. It should appear on Disk Utility in your other computer. Also try running the hardware diagnostic test (choose the extended option once there) that came with that mac (its in one of the DVD's). Good luck man.

Or try popping in a copy of "tech tools deluxe" Cd. I have had limited success with it in the past but has gotten me out of the boot screen of death once or twice. I am thinking at this point you may have an issue with the drive.

No it wouldnt be obvious. Just because an OS is loaded on the HDD doesnt necessarily mean that you iMac knows to boot from your HDD.

I understand that you can boot from your MB using your iMac as an external OS'd drive.

If you've already tried setting your start up from install disk then I guess I'm wrong.

Do you even get the spinning gear during boot up ?
