Stuck CD!

I inserted a music CD into my MBP's drive and ripped it into iTunes without issue. However, when I try to eject it, the drive makes a funny noise and the CD doesn't come out! Holding the trackpad button at boot doesn't do it either!

Any suggestions?

Edit: Got it. I pushed the edge of a second CD in there while ejecting, and it must've dislodged whatever was catching it. Whew!

But, to keep on the safe side, be wary of Jennifer Knapp, "The Way I Am".

Edit 2: Another one just got stuck. I'm worried now.

if the problem persits id advise taking it in as that sounds like something got bumped, moved out of place, or the likes. Good luck

Was it an extra thick disc? I noticed a warning on a DVD/CD about using it in a slot-loading drive.

It wasn't noticeably thick. Both of the ones that got stuck were from my brother's collection (before you blast me for piracy, I was assembling an MP3 collection for his birthday party) and were a bit "grubby". If it happens with one of my CDs (which I keep pristine) then I'l get it looked at, but I don't really want to send in my system and lose it for a couple of days, especially if they can't replicate the problem.

Stuck Toshiba CD

I have had similar problems with by Ex-Ibook G4. I inserted a Toshiba E-studio copier documentation CD. If i remember right, toshiba invented CD. It got stuck, no one at @ apple store could take it out in the normal way. They opened it with a screwdriver i think, becouse it had scratches at the superdrive after them.
I dont understand what's happening with apple. After this ibook i bought a macmini- it had bad memory. After mac mini i bought a MBP 2.0 core duo, it had heat, whining problems.

Currently i'm back @ a Sony VAIO, reading apple discussions, news and waiting for a good quality computer. I really like mac os x, but too much headache for now.

Apple does not make the RAM. Secondly a core duo MBP was the first generation, there were kinks to be worked out. Don't loose faith in Apple.

I had some problems with mine on occasion. I could not replicate the problem. Sometimes it would stick like yours. Others it would make a terrible noise when inserting. I kept thinking the problem would go away.

Finally, I took my PB to the Apple Store and go the optical drive replaced. Good decision. Now it works just fine.

Nermal. I had the same problem with my 24" Imac. Ordered it online,
waited 3 weeks for it to arrive, then first night, went to play a dvd, and it got stuck. Being my first mac, I wasn't happy at all. I was about to pack
it up and send it back, when my uncle reminded me that we just had an apple store open up on the other side of town. So I took it over, lock stock and barrell. Was there 10 min before open, and they let me in. took me right up and took a look... tried everything to get the dvd out, but nothing happened. They finally had to pry it out went into the back, and gave me a brand new off the shelf model.."only good if you bought a stock machine, and made no mods to it yet." and swapped it for me. I was VERY impressed. Apparently, something during shipping happened, and it knocked the slot drive out of alignment by about a half inch. not allowing the disc to eject properly.

It also helped that they had warned me, that when I had a disc in. I had to
close all programs using the disc before it would eject. *L* told ya this was my first mac.

Hope it helps. if at all possible.. take it too an apple store, they're there to help.

Got my MBP this morning, and I was just installing FCS, and the motion disc is stuck in the drive.

Rebooting and holding the mouse key down isn't working, it tries to eject the disc and fails.

In MacOS it does the same, then mounts the disc again.


Is there anything I can do myself? Like a force eject hole in the drive somewhere?

I just can't spare the time to send the thing back to Apple just now (no store nearby )

and now it's not mounting at all. it just keeps trying to eject it. it's really freaking worrying me

Second, try inserting a business card or similar stock into the drive - slowly - as it's trying to eject. You might be able to move it enough to get the eject to work (it's likely stuck at the top or bottom, so try the card in both areas).

It sounds like the optical is out of alignment with the slot and really should be repaired if you ever get the chance.

I tried to get it out with my photocard driving license (credit card sized, business card thick), but it seems there's a catch type thing in the way. it can be slid out the way by taking the card left to right, but pops up again at first opportunity - and it's not this that's holding it in.

I've called Apple, and they point blank refuse to collect and return repair it, telling me to go to a service centre. I told them what I thought of an 8hr old machine going wrong like this and eventually they said they'd try and arrange a replacement.

Because it's a Refurb they won't just send a new one out and get the old picked up as they would with a new one, but as I can't afford an extra £500 for a new one, that's not an option. So I think I managed to twist them in to doing the same with a like-spec refurb unit.

They offered me a straight return with £80 Apple Store credit. Which while a nice little bonus, if it were £160 I'd jump at it so I could get a C2D one

Oh well, I'll await tomorrow and see if their call back brings any good news.

have you tried

using the disk utility to eject the disk.. or the reboot while pushing a particular key..

this is the advice from "help" page..

when I called applecare with the same question, they told me to bring it in..

I ejected via disk utility and rebooted.. no problems since.

those are first line attempts for me...

disk utility just can't see the disc, because (as i mentioned before), it won't mount now on the desktop..
