ok to make a long story short, a few months back i upgraded from
beta 2 to beta 3 and my Mac Mini (late 2009) would barely run and
safari wouldn't connect to any sites at all. i did a restore from a time
machine backup back to beta 2 and all has been fine since.

this is my current config

now that 10.10.1 is out i have tried to unsuccessfully to upgrade
several times. if i try downloading Yosemite from the Mac store
it fails and says i am already running 10.10

today i downloaded the 10.10.1 update directly from Apple and when
i try to install, it says my hard drive doesn't meet the requirements
for this update ? drive is a new Samsung Spinpoint M8 ST1000LM024
1TB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache

i'm lost, any ideas ?

Maybe try a clean install from recovery?

and i don't think you can use 10.10.1 update on beta without installing 10.10

Important question is if you need to keep with updates or you can just format hdd and install fresh.
Best bet is to backup all your stuff, download the OS X installer, make the flash install (you can find guides on forum) reboot from flash drive, format hdd and install fresh OS X.

Or just simply go into recovery, format hdd, and download yosi in recovery. It's easiest i think.

Delete /Applications/Install OS X Yosemite.app if it exists.

Or if you have an Apple Store nearby, you could download it there (use your Apple ID if needed).
