Stuck on reboot screen after update to 10.10.1

After update to 10.10.1 I cannot get the restart bar more than 1/3 the way across on my iMac (late 2013).

Any advice please?

OK!!!! It's 2100 here in the UK.

I'll leave it overnight.

Tried a power off, unplug everything from the USB sockets, then restart.

Wow, shot across the boot screen and restarted.

Coincidence ???

Power off during an install ? Computer suicide ?
