Stuck pixel issues..

Alright, so it turns out that my amazing new 24" iMac has a stuck pixel. It only appears on dark screens and is not a huge physical issue, but is incredibly distracting- every time the screen is black my eyes automatically go there, reminding me that my new machine is imperfect. I debated with myself the idea of getting a replacement from apple, but I'm unsure how this would work. I'm still within the 14 day replacement window that I see talked about here, but there's a few things I'd like to know.
1. How long would it take to receive it back after I ship it out?
2. Would I have to backup my data, or would they be able to transfer it for me?
3. What (if any) costs would I have to pay?
BTW, it's a BTO 3.06 nVidia top-middle (didn't need the extra HD space) from the online apple store.

Stuck. Not dead? Stuck on one color? Okay, there's a widget on the Apple site that can fix those. I forget the name; you can search for it. Just drag it under where the pixel is and leave it there until it starts acting normal.

Works most of the time, and Apple doesn't take things back for only one pixel... I think.

I tried running many different pixel fixers for long periods of time (>1 hour) and nothing happened.
Also, when I was posting this I though I might have 2 more, but it turns out they were just oddly shaped dots on the screen. I don't think I'll (try to) send it back now that I know they aren't real, but if another issue comes up, how would it be handled?

BTW, I'm sure its stuck. It's a small blue dot.

Maybe I can give you some help.

If you bought it at an Apple Store...you have to go back to the same Apple Store

I bought a Macbook at an Apple store...and three weeks later, a stuck pixel came about. It was stuck on red. I brought it in, not knowing what to say to them. So I came in, and shook hands with EVERY Apple employee that I met who would help me. I told them that I just bought the notebook, and there was a stuck pixel that came up. So they turned on the Macbook, and one of the employee's right away noticed A LOT of other stuck pixels, but I knew that there was only one...so he was just seeing dust. He then called upon another Apple employee, and this dude just only saw the stuck pixel that I was talking about and that the other's that the other employee had seen was just dust.

So they downloaded a "pixel tester" so see if there were other stuck pixels. Since there was only one, he said that there was nothing he can do about it. I then told him that I was a "Graphics Designer" (originally that was my major, then I changed to Dentistry...but he doesn't know that) and that, that "one" stuck pixel can ruin the whole picture. He agreed, and 30 minutes later I walked out of the Apple store with an upgraded version macbook.

I had a 2.16 blackbook, and he gave me the 2.2 blackbook that just came out two days earlier.

Cliffnotes:

1) Stuck pixel
2) Brought into Apple Store
3) Shook hands & introduced myself to ALL of the Apple employee's who helped me
4) Told them I was a "Graphics Designer"
5) Walked out with a brand new upgraded version Blackbook

Sometimes it requires at least 24 hours to fix it.

I recieved my custom 24" on last Saturday, I didnt really get to setting it up till Sunday....As soon as I changed the background display image I noticed a stuck pixel. Mine was purplish/pink. My heart sank, its way to annoying after spending top dollar to deal with that.

Here is my experience. I called an apple store, they indicated they couldnt return and replace it as they dont have 1TB systems....For me I need that storage and no I dont want external I need that too, but I need 1TB local. However, if you did buy through the store take it back there, they will transfer the data for you and it is easy as pie.

Now, I called apple. Here is what they told me. They'll send me a new one. But I need to send the old one back first. THey didnt second guess it, give me a hardtime, or reference any pixel policy. They felt bad appologized. I requested a .mac account for a year, they complied. I also requested a free shuffle. They complied, I already have the tracking on that.

I still dont have the tracking on my replacement Mac but hey I waited since Feb to get it what is 1 more week for a perfect screen? I couldnt shell out 2500 for something and have it less than perfect. I will say it is nice calling tech support and not having to ask to speek to someone within 3 time zones of you...GL Let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for this information! I just bought a refurb Macbook, and have one little reddish/pink dot. I'll give one of those applets a whirl, and see if it fixes it. I hope so, because I love the Macbook otherwise...not a problem, just a little bummed out...

my sister had a similar problem. It seemed to happen once it had been on for a while or woken back up from sleep, but she would have about 30-40 blue pixels, some of the static, some flashing. My thoughts were either the graphics card is faulty, or it's a motherboard issue.

Its currently going through Apple to be repaired, ill let you know how it turns out.
