So I went to Best Buy yesterday and held the iPad for the first time. The first thing I noticed was how vivid the screen was. The second thing I noticed was a bright red stuck pixel smack dab in the middle of the screen. I picked up another iPad and noticed a red stuck pixel on it as well. After reading about a lot of others problems with stuck pixels, it kind of makes me hesitant to fork over $500 for one of these things. Sounds like stuck pixels are a pretty widespread issue.

Umm, no it's not a widespread issue. It's a minor common issue with any monitor on the market. If those iPads were from the same batch, it makes sense for them to have the same issue. It just happens. Also, only the majority of people who have problems come to those forums to make a complaint. We don't usually get a lot of people who have a happy experience with their devices to come to those forums just to say it. Your "persecutive" on those "other's problems" are not the reality.

Apple has been exchanging any iPads with dead or stuck pixels so far, nobody has gotten refused for just a single dead pixel.

Actually, I doubt even dead/stuck pixels are anything to do with batches, and more to do with simple bad luck. In any case, I have two iPads and neither had dead pixels. Both do, however, have a small amount of light bleed viewable in a pitch black room. :)

You may have read a lot about dead pixels but I doubt you read about a lot of owners complaining about dead pixels. 1m+ iPads are not in the wild even with a defect rate of .10% that is going to give you 2,500 defective units. Some of those 1,000 iPad owners will complain but you'll never hear from the 9,999,000 owners that have no issue. The Internet magnifies issues like that - kind of like a false positive.

Also, be wary of demo units in BB. People toss them around like they were garbage. Its quite possible the units you looked out were knocked around and otherwise abused.

I have two iPads, both with great screens. If you should get a bad screen just return it for a new one (not sure what BB's exchange policy is on dead pixels but Apple seems to be replacing w/ even one dead pixel).

My first iPad had a dead pixel close to the middle of the screen. Apple did take it back, even if it was just one pixel, and gave me a replacement. Though the guy said that they normally don't do replacements for just one dead pixel or for such a minor dead pixel. The replacement does have a slight defective pixel that you can only see that it is black at a certain angle (I did look for dead pixels in store and didn't see it at the time). I don't notice it under normal use (unlike the first one) so I've decided to keep it.

I believe most people won't notice a dead pixel and there probably are a lot of iPads out their with dead or stuck pixels. Though stuck pixels can fix themselves, dead pixel most likely will never recover. It's not an iPad problem though, it's just the nature of LCD.

I don't have dead pixels but I have developed the bright blur or hotspot from a reflector defect. Would this be covered by Best Buy as an exchange or do I have to send it in? its been two weeks since I got it.

I currently have 1 stuck/dead pixel on my iPad and have an appointment today to see if they can replace it for me. It only shows on black background, but i have a few sites i go to with dark background and it kina bugs me :( So we'll see if apple will replace my unit. This is my 2nd unit.. the first one had wifi issues

Apple will make a one time exception and will give you another one but if that one has dead or stuck pixels, they will not give you another one.

Not true. I've had three different iPads, and they'll exchange it until you're satisfied. Others have had the same experience.
