Hey guys I have a older Mac mini that is stuck booting up. The Apple logo shows and the progress bar gets approximately 80% then it just try's to star over. I would like to get everything off the hard drive moved to a external hard drive and reinstall a fresh OS. Any help appreciated

Sounds like a USB issue. If there are usb devices connected to it, try removing all of them. One of them could be the culprit.

Thanks for the response Yes there are a couple of usb slots occupied. I will remove them and give it a try and let you know what happens.
[doublepost=1504634017][/doublepost]Ok I removed the usb slots and tried to reboot. The progress bar again goes so far then it goes to dark screen and trys to restart. Any other ideas?

It could be:
- motherboard/logic board
- the GPU/graphics cards, whatever it has
- your OS X installation
- your HDD
- something else

Something to try... Repair your HDD while booted from single user mode.

Start your Mac. As soon as you hear the startup chime, press and hold Command-S on the keyboard. Keep holding down those keys until you see a black screen with white lettering. This is called “booting into Single User Mode.” As soon as you see the black screen with white lettering, you can release the keys.

Right after the root# prompt, enter the following:

/sbin/fsck -fy

Press the Return key.

repeat this command if any errors were found.
