Its not even on the store yet. Have to wait a bit. I would, however like to know this too.

Isn't the student discount like 10%? So for the $499 it would be $50 off and so on. I don't see any reason they'd block discount for the iPad.

They blocked them for iPods though. Since this is pretty much a huge Touch, I could see them not giving discounts.

Student Discounts?

I know the ipad is totally geared towards consumers, but unlike the iPod or iPhone, I'm really looking forward to the ipad as an ebook reader, for iWork, and general device for school, instead of carrying around a Macbook.

So considering its selling point as an ebook reader and with iWork support, do you suppose Apple would consider the iPad for eligibility with their student discounts?

I will be using the iPad for the same thing. I imagine if there are any discounts, it'll be only 10%.

Probably wont be 10%. Originally the macbook edu price was $50 off, (5%) where the jumped to $100 (10%) just recently. But the base 13" pro is a $100 off, which is 8.3%. My guess if they give a discount, it will be closer to $25 but I hope for $50, that would be nice (which I will definitely use if I buy one).

Yea i'm hoping for $50 too. I'm hoping for student discounts because that would mean other retailers will be more lenient in pricing as well.

I just chatted online with an Apple representative and they didn't give me any answers. They just said it hadn't been determined yet.

I doubt there will be since the iPhones and iPod Touches have no discount.

I know it is geared for students, but I think that since it is similar to iPhone/iPod Touch, it won't. The price is already very low.

I wouldn't be surprised if they have a big textbook announcement at some point and announce some college will be giving them out for free when the students buy their x-thousand dollars worth of text books. (Half smiley)

steve mentioned that he was excited for textbooks in the iBookstore, also iWork seems perfect for students...

I can easily see them giving the edu discount, hopefully they realize how perfect this is for us students :p

iPad is not a Mac, but should be considered a large iPod. So I wish they could give a free iPad for students purchasing a new mac

Anyword on this? I totally forgot to try this when I got my iPad so im going to try on Monday...

IMO iPad fits into the 'netbook' category concerning application of the device... not just entertainment

Apple Store Chat said no, but ill try at the store anyway, see if I can get a manager to do it.
