sorry i know you've all heard it before! but i hope u can bear (sp?) :p with me on this one.

Anyway after being at university in chester for about 8 weeks now ive realised that i would benefit greatly from the purchase of a laptop. ive been toying with the idea for a while now but now i have the money i want to go ahead and put my money where my mouth is.

Ive been a windows user but want to switch. My hope is to buy a refurbished 12" PB for 960 pounds. however i understand its a bit overpriced for what its competition hold at the moment, not bothered about waiting for mactel as i need it before christmas and as soon as possible and i know rev a's have major problems.

iBook? i thought about this for quite a while and several things put me off. 32mb graphis card. oh dear lack of superdrive in the 12" and small capactiy of hard drive. so kinda puts it out the picture.

final idea was a good windows laptop. mmh i did want to switch alot but for the same money u can get alot with windows.

i guess i just need reassurance that the PB is what i really want.

Any thoughts or advise would be very much appreciated.
thanks in advance!

just get an ibook and an external dvd burner, they are cheap now.

the ibooks gpu is actually faster than the powerbooks one by a fair margin.

Unless you're going to be playing some graphically demanding games, the graphics card in the iBook is perfectly fine.

Im hoping to switch soon....... but i've decided to wait until MWSF to see if anything new comes out.

The 12" iBook is still great value for money and if you really need to burn DVDs just buy an external burner.

Just remember if you get an external DVD burner you need to download a copy of PatchBurn it will allow you to burn DVDs with iLife apps.

I love me some iBook.

I had a 12" 1.33GHz PB and the 12" 1.33GHz iBook... I gave up my PB for the iBook and if that situation arose again today (months later) I'd do it again without a qualm. :D

Why?

As a student, only certain aspects of having a 'portable' really matter to me.
-wifi reception is much better w/ my iBook
-battery life is much better w/ my iBook
-it runs cooler to the touch (more comfortable to use over time compared to PB)
-it feels hardy/durable and I don't have to 'baby' it
-it's a great deal cheaper than the PB...
-yet it offers almost the same specs (I don't bother gaming on a portable)

Nah, go with the iBook, the pb just can't be justified. As for the graphics card, I play halo on my ibook, 16 player rooms, no problem:) (unless it's out of control, rockets, vehicle, etc). you could get a windows laptop, but you're only delaying the switch;)
