Hi all
I have been given the green light to go ahead and buy the 27'' Studio display. It was introduced in 2022. There was some expectations that it was up for renewal last year. That didn't happen. Are there any reliable rumors on this matter? And if they will upgrade it in 2025, when is that then likely to happen? In the March-event or later?
Thanks
Morten

The previous Thunderbolt Display was never updated. What do you need that it doesn't have?

I'm also holding out for a new Studio Display - I'm expecting a M4 Max/Ultra Mac Studio this year (hopefully March, but I have around June in my mind for some reason??) and I think a refreshed Studio Display will come alongside it....

1mm bezels
Weirdly enough I like the big bezels. It gives it some visual mass and presence, but maybe that’s just me

I actually just got my studio display yesterday and I’m absolutely in love with it 🥰 wouldn’t change a thing, except possibly 120hz but I don’t game on it, personally

I think there are now 4 other 5K monitors and I believe all of them come with and/or offer VESA mount. Maybe take the budget and buy one of them. One of them was just released in the last month or two so it is very new.

Besides coming with 1+ mounts for which Apple charges extra, some of them have more than one input (so you can easily hook something else to them), are generally more flexible than ASD, have a better camera, etc.

Dell offers a 32" 6K monitor for not much more than ASD pricing and LG just announced a new 6K at CES (but not the pricing yet). Dell also offers an 8K 32" and new Macs released lately all tout the ability to drive 8K displays.

When I finally moved on from iMac 27", I went ultra-wide 5K2K in a 40" model from Dell. That expansive screen R.E. is fantastic with Mac and I could never go back to the near square shape screens. It basically looks just as sharp and nice as the old iMac 27" (which is basically the ASD screen now) but it has all that additional screen. It's priced like ASD with stand option but delivers that expanded space as well as a substantial built-in hub with a nice mix of popular-use ports in 2025... instead of just one kind of port that typically leads average Joes to also need a hub to connect the stuff they already own.

In short: there is PLENTY of fish in the monitor sea. An ASD budget will easily buy many of them (sometimes TWO of them). Maybe consider shopping beyond a single choice from Apple?
