When a Studio Display is attached, why are the sound controls split out of Preferences into a separate app (Audio MIDI Setup) located in Utilities?

Settings should appear in Sound preferences panel and Audio Midi Setup.

Audio Midi Setup does extra stuff like letting you combine multiple outputs into a single output.

Thanks for the response. But it seems very much against Apple UI design principles to make it as complicated by placing sound controls spread out in different places they way they've done it. There is a Sound pane in System preferences which says" Apps may be able to access head pose information when playing specialized audio."
"Settings for the selected device: The selected device has no output controls" What does that mean? I attached my new Studio display and went to the system Sound preference pane to see how to control sound from the various speakers that are part of the Display, and it says there are no output controls. Then I did some web searching and found out about about Midi Audio Setup. There was another tool mentioned but I didn't make a note of it and promptly forgot what is was and where. Hardly intuitive. What came to mind was Microsoft's un-intuitive approach to preferences and controls. There's no reason that in a preference pane named "Sound" all relevant sound controls could be consolidated. There's no reason why any apps having their own controls couldn't have them and at the same time duplicate access to common objects in System Preferences. At a minimum, the system Sound Preference pane should absolutely not tell the user "Settings for the selected device: The selected device has no output controls".

Maybe some screenshots would help explain your situation. I don't have a Studio Display to test but I'm sure it should have at least a volume control.

What Mac is it connected to? What cable and port?
