When I crank iTunes and the OS volume up all the way and start a song, it starts playing at maximum volume for about the first 5 seconds, before becoming a little bit quieter. Basically feels like it cannot play at sustained maximum volume and has a limiter at about 80%. Pausing the song and pressing play again gives me another short 5 second burst of beautiful maximum volume before reverting to a quieter level. The volume sliders do not change, indicating it is still playing at max volume, but there is a noticeable reduction. Anyone else getting this? Apple Support is clueless of course.

I’m not sure but looking at this speaker it seems similar to the tiny one in the Mac mini. I bet it’s just not capable to play at maximum volume for a sustained period. I bet it’s meant to play the startup chime and error tones rather than act as a computer speaker. It’s similar to the speakers that used to be on PC motherboards to play startup beeps. Unfortunately Apple isn’t great when it comes to documentation

These are the nicest / fullest / loudest speakers I’ve ever heard from a computer. I think you are confusing the speakers in the Studio Display with the Mac’s internal speaker. Would love if someone out there can test and see if it happens for them too.
