No. Not all of them.
Apps are no longer backed up since iOS 9. Some settings may not be restored AS apple keeps tweaking or changing them. “Exactly the same” is mostly only true when none of your apps are pulled and apple did not change any setting or add anything between your backup and restore.

Thanks.

That sucks :(

The only “identical” is device transfer but yea for restoring. Nope. iCloud does a good job though. I might do that since this phone is a battery drainer.

Lately I did a transfer, from an old iPad Pro to a newer one, with the initial setup (you know, scanning that spherical-cloud-QRcode). Everything was transfered to my new iPad on the initial setup. Everything, except Fortnite.

What’s most intriguing, is that the version of the apps is exactly the same. Even the half written messages on some chat apps, are still there half written. If the new iPad downloads the apps from the App Store server (explaining why Fortnite was the only app that wasn’t transferred), it doesn’t make sense that the apps are still the old versions I had installed, and not the most recent version.

It’s kinda intriguing me. Maybe it happened because the iPad actually copies everything, BUT checks the apps on their store first? I dunno

App data is copied as-is mostly, depending on how dev handles it. App is downloaded from App Store if they are available. Sometimes the restore happens so well I can start playing the game as soon as it is downloaded, and I only need small update.

But if the apps are always downloaded from the App Store, how can you explain the transfer kept the old versions from way before the summer? (I know, I should regularly update my apps)

The backup restore process restores the apps to the version that was on the device. The older versions are still on Apple's servers.

If the apps are no longer available in the Store, you won't be able to restore them. I recently ran into this with some older apps when doing a Quick Setup transfer from one iPad to a new one.

Yeah i feel like it doesn’t download the apps anymore. If they are pulled from the app store you are toast.

My experience is that if you have "purchased" apps (including free ones) they are still available for download, despite being removed from the store or deprecated. I have some apps that are no longer functional, but I can still download them from "Purchased" in my account on the App Store.

Not all of them. protube for example, got purged so hard, even purchased app list can no longer find it. Basically, unless you have a comprehensive local ipa file library, you are truly toast.

I have seen that for a few -- but i think it depends on the reason why it was removed from the app store. Luckily I have them backed up on an old version of itunes, and i can side load them.
