stupid me for trusting the the apple store employee's

well i decided to bite the bullet and purchase a new i5 imac today. So i go to the apple store and ask for i5 27". Well i didn't look at the box or my receipt and when i get home i have a brand new 3.06 27" iMac. It really is a beautiful computer.:(

well it will be probably more than enough computer for awhile so i will keep it.

this 27" screen is incredible.:cool:
 
You can still return it. You might need to pay a restocking fee, but if you explain calmly to any of the employees (no '), that they gave you the wrong one and play a little bit stupid about knowing so much about computers (in order to have checked the receipt after receiving it), you might get around the restocking fee.
 
no i got charged the correct price for the 3.06. part of the problem may have been that i just had the receipt emailed to me.

well i really do like this one so will probably keep it.

it is very fast.
 
This is just my opinion, but you should return it.

I am nearly 100% sure if you explain the situation, you won't get charged any restocking fee.
 
I'd bring it back and get what I originally asked for.

Not blaming you but how do you drop almost $2,000 and not inspect the box? Also, didn't the price seem low?

it was stupid of me. they gave me a figure and i totally wasn't thinking. i never looked at the receipt because i just asked them to email it to me.

When I bought mine, I didn't check the box. I was very clear in what I wanted, though. And, I had trust in the Apple employee. Call me dumb if you want but I had no issues.

To the OP, I'd return it and ask them to not charge a restock fee...this is something they should be double-checking, if you felt you were clear enough on.
 
Return it if you wanted the i5. They won't charge you a restocking fee to get a more expensive machine. I bought a 20" aluminum days after they came out Summer 2007, used it for a couple days, and exchanged it for a 24" no questions asked. The viewing angles on the 20" screen were atrocious.
 
ok just called and they were real cool. they said i wouldn't get charged the restock fee. since i already started the migration assistant do i need put the disk in and give it fresh install or do leave everything on it?

out of curiousity how much personal data gets removed if i add a new user then delete the current one?

I'm thinking that would remove most of your personal data. I've no idea where the browsers (Safari and Firefox) keep their data (cookies and bookmarks)...neither do I know where the keychains are kept. So, doing what you propose may not be enough. I'm a serious Linux and BSD user but there are some things that I still don't know about OS X (there are some big differences). For me, I'd just take the extra time to wipe the whole drive, only because I don't know if a wipe of user account data will cut it.
 
ok gave imac a fresh install boxed it up and took it back to apple store.
just one of the many reasons i love mac. i explained the situation to the gentleman that greeted me at the front of the store. He took it to the back of the store went and got the i5 and said he would waive the restock fee and he told me the price difference i said no problem paid and was on my way.


set up this one and wow looks and runs great.
