Ahh... Thats a bit of a hack. It works, but its quite a bit more complicated and requires more frequently updating the software.
The easy way to get media from your Mac into your Apple TV is just to add it to iTunes. For this project I like iFlicks. Its available on the App store for a few bucks and it will convert any video you can find into a suitable format, automatically lookup all the metadata and add the whole thing to your iTunes. It's a great solution and there's a free demo so you can play with it before you buy it.
