Thinking about getting one and I’m sure it does but the M2 showing support for ProRes and ProRes confuses me. Does does the m1 not support it?

Basically I want to see my iPhone 14 ProRes and ProRes on a mac M1 with studio display

For what little I know, the M1 pro/max/ultra support pro res, not the basic M1 which is in the Mini.

I believe the M2 MBA supports ProRes, so regardless what M2 flavor ends up in Mini, it should be supported.

You will be able to open ProRes on M1 but it is not hardware accelerated. M1 Pro/Max and M2 have hardware acceleration.

This would make an enormous difference if you’re trying to edit the video. Exports should also be way faster on M1 Pro/Max and M2. Simple playback for ProRes should be fine on M1 though AFAIK.

But I don’t know many people who would record in ProRes if they weren’t going to edit it, because it uses huge amounts of space.

Oh that would be me. Just want to open and view/play the ProRes/Raw, not actually edit it.
