stupid question on SATA drive for notebook

so here it is. can macbook pro hard drive replace for macbook? if it is true, I will save a lot of money. thank you.

Yes, both the MacBook and the MacBook Pro use the same time of hard drive, 2.5" SATA drives.

yes! even I knew about it. but I wanted double check to make sure. recently hard drive was dead in my macbook. it was Seagate 80GB HDD. after researching several information on hard drive, I decided to go with western digital. there are two reasons to choose it. first, it's cheaper than other, but has the same high quality. second, it's more durable than seagate. especially, it's highly resistant for shock. seagate is weaken. hitachi I want to get. but it doesn't have 120GB model. of course, they sell 160GB now. but it's expensive than I think. 100GB? it's little bit small.

I actually prefer Seagate...I think they make solid drives and they come with a 5-year warranty. But get whatever fits your needs and budget the best...

Surely it was under warranty, no? How could it not be? I'd at least get the replacement for it, even if you intend to use a higher-capacity one.

Never in my life did I expect to see "Western Digital" and "high quality" used in the same sentence. Of course, the fact that 6 out of the 7 Western Digital drives I've owned have died might make me a bit biased...

Really? My fiance has many WD drives and all of them have been going strong for years..

yeah I got replacement yesterday from Apple. but I'm not going to install it because I just ordered Hitachi 160GB SATA drive for my macbook. actually, hitachi is very strong, durable hard drive that I have no problem at all. my old 12-inch powerbook use hitachi. even though much abuse, it still running nicely.

Yeah, I've had 2-8GB Caviars (back when those were recent) and newer 160-200GB drives crap out on me, many of them after less than a year of use. The only existing WD drive I have is a 20GB that lives inside my xbox. Odd thing is I have a handful of 2-4GB Quantum drives that I've had since before any of the Western Digitals, and all of them are still happily chugging along. Even had a couple of them running for 8 months straight in a webserver, and no problems.

Agreed. Get it replaced, and if you still want to upgrade, sell the replacement. My Macbook's drive died recently, and I simply took the machine in to the Apple store and insisted on getting it swapped out right there. I walked out with a brand new drive.
