can I put my old ibook (G3 800Mhz) hard drive into my G4 powerbook (ti 500Mhz)? Would I have to reformat? Or can I just switch them out and keep running the OS 10.3 like normal?
When you install MacOS for the first time (10.4 anyhow) it gives you an option to move things from your old mac via Firewire, it'll recover your account information an all.

The ibook logic board just died out again this weekend and I didn't get everything off it that I needed. The Powerbook is old only has a 20 GB hard drive and is running OS 9.2 and the CD/DVD ROM doesn't work on it.
The ibook has a 40 GB HD and was running OS 10.3.9. I want to switch it out so I can run OS X on the powerbook, b/c I can't install it on the machine since the drive doesn't work. These are computers I have at work and we are getting new Macbook's (or MBP's depending on budget) next year sometime. So I'm looking for something I can do in the meantime. We are the only dept. still on Macs and our IT guys know nothing about anything that's not a PC.
Basically the answer to your question is I want the bigger HD in the machine that works, plus be able to recover the files I hadn't backed up at the same time.
