Let me start by saying I loved my Note 5 for two years. With that said I did not really ever "need" the Stylus except for a few notes or grocery lists here and there. After buying the S8+ on Monday all my Notes transfered over just fine, and I can Write on my S8+ just the same with my finger and make the same notes as I did on my Note 5.

So I ask for those out there who are looking forward to buying a Note 8 do you Need a Stylus is the Stylus part of your buying decision ?

I would much preffer a device the Note 8 size but use the left over Stylus space for a larger battery.

For myself, I write a lot of hand written notes. Using my finger to do so, doesn't compare to the S-Pen. Editing photos is much eaiser when using things like lasso. But overall, the S-Pen is also a much better input tool.

Nothing comes close to a stylus for precision when writing notes or annotating documents/screenshots/pics. A finger is nowhere near as precise. The best thing to ever come to the Note line is being able to write notes instantly without going into an app. That alone is enough to keep me on the Note line. I use it every single day through out my work week. My desk is littered with sticky notes at the moment because I'm currently still using my S7 Edge. Then there's all the other uses you can't think of until the moment comes. For example, I got into a minor accident, and when explaining what happened to my insurance adjuster, I sent a screen shot from Google Maps. I Drew all over it showing what precisely happened. The adjuster was like, wow very nice. Made his job easier. Got the whole call done in less than 10 min.

Hmm, I have a s pen with the tab S3 and Chromebook plus so I think I will not even want the note 8. The S8 plus is a good phone with a better battery so I most likely will pass. The s pen is nice but if you already have devices with it...there is no true need for another s pen device.

I use my stylus for quick notes, screen shots and smart select, animation gifs, and to mark up PDFs and other information. There are definitely uses for a stylus especially if one is integrated so well like the s pen.

You should give up pens and pencils also, just get one of those pen attachments that go on your finger and use that for writing anything for the rest of your life.

The only time I have used the pen on my previous Notes (Note 5/Note Edge/Note 4) was to do screen caps. The pen made it so easy by allowing me to simply draw a square around whatever I wanted to capture and then the image was automatically instantly saved to the pictures folder.

That alone is worth buying another Note for although I may just keep using my Note 5 another year and use my S8+ as well.

I may be getting a Tab S3 soon... How is it? Already got an S8 and agree, that with a Tab S3 makes me likely to pass on the Note 8.

a better place
When I had note devices in the past, I used the stylus to sketch and draw. But outside of that particular use, I didn't use it very often for other tasks as I find still quicker to take a voice note or such, and just as quick to jot down a telephone number directly into dialer than as a note, and then transfer that to dialer / contact.

The Galaxy Tab S3 is the most complete tablet available...it may not have iOS or the ultimate fastest processor but that's unnecessary when you have a file manager, s pen and s pen features, trackpad support, best screen on a tablet device period, 4 speakers (make sure you put it in surround sound mode for best sound), smooth performance and free Microsoft apps.

Yes, the Stylus is part of my buying decision indeed, not because I take notes but due to the precision and flexibility of the Stylus to copy content not just from web pages but from images to, as well being much more convenient for signing digital documents that I do a lot.

I had a Galaxy Note 4 and was waiting for the Note7 late last year, and we all know what happened to that phone, so I got a S7 Edge, fantastic device BUT I have really felt the effects of the missing stylus and I am sometimes tempted to get my Note 4 out its box, just for that darn stylus.

Touchscreens have come very far indeed, but a Stylus still has a place in smartphones and tablets, IMO, even Apple woke up to that with the iPad's iPen or whatever they call it.

I love that! And this is truly the beauty of the SPen, and it just opens up new ways to do things due to its precision.

Can you imagine how painful it would have been trying to do that accident report on the S7 Edge with your finger? Urrgh!

I love my S7 Edge, but it ain't no Galaxy Note, that's for sure!

I'm old. I just don't have the dexterity or hand/eye coordination I use to in my youth. I wear tri-focal glasses. I would really like Apple Pencil support on the iPhone. I find it easier to scribble notes than to tap away on a miniature, virtual keyboard.

I loved taking notes for any recommendations, and shopping lists were so easy.
Using the pen to sketch to explain things to customers in layman's terms was great too. To the point where people were impressed and asked what kind of phone that is.
I miss my Note 7, 5 and 4 and 3.... :D

When I owned note phones in the past I mainly used the s pen to take and crop screen shots. Occasionally to take notes and do doodles.
