Subtitles in iTunes - no grey box!

I haven't found any setting to (de)activate the grey box, so it seems like it's completely removed. Although playing the same movie on the ATV2 (haven't upgraded to the new ATV UI yet), the grey box is still there.

Has anyone upgraded to the new UI and care to see whether or not the grey box is gone on the ATV as well?

I noticed this today too! Unfortunately, the grey box still exists on the ATV3.

What a strange thing to do, removing it from iTunes but not from the ATV...

Funny thing is, I've gotten so used to it it feels weird watching movies in iTunes without that grey box there
