Successfully installed OS X on Apple TV...but no wired network/audio/IR!

In all my research before doing this I never came across this: I booted up my Apple TV with OS X, and everything is running smoothly, but it can't see the wired network card! It only sees the airport, which is no good because I only have G wireless and I want to use my wire network that I specifically ran out to the living room for this purpose.

Does anyone have any experience with OS X on Apple TV? Are you able to select wired Ethernet in system preferences?

EDIT: Wired network is now working, but there's no audio and no IR sensor.
 
I don't believe I have any MKV files, but once I get it all setup (the new HDTV is coming tomorrow) I'll see what I can find out. I was just planning on using Front Row for most things, unless someone has a better idea. I need to be able to select video with the remote.
 
On a side note, ever since I installed OS X the front light just blinks orange. Anyone know how the hell to make it stop?

You can use Handbrake 0.9.1 to rip MKV files with the AC-3 audio intact. Use a DVD that has 5.1 Dolby Digital surround. When you open the DVD, select MKV from the Output pull-down of the Video settings tab. On the Codecs pull-down, choose AVC with AC-3. Then click on the Audio & Subtitles tab and make sure your 5.1 English track is selected (DD, not DTS) in Track 1 and Track 1 Mix is set to passthrough, then start the transcode. QT won't play the resultant file, but VLP will passthrough the AC-3 track through the optical port of the ATV (hopefully). There's a setting in VLC's preferences for this. I'm using VLP 0.8.6d (check the VLC Forums for its link because it's not been officially released yet).

All of us will be grateful if you can do this to verify that the ATV can really do 5.1 passthrough.
 
Well we've got a bit of a hiccup here...turns out I have no audio on my OS X installation. It sees no sound card. Off to hunt for kexts...anyone with tips would be appreciated.
 
Well I think this is coming to a sad conclusion...I am unable to get the audio to work, and everything I had read online seems to indicate that no one has solved this problem yet (hard to believe, since OS X was first installed on this thing over 8 months ago, but whatever). I tried porting a couple audio-related .kexts from the original AppleTV OS into my 10.4.11 installation, but no dice. I don't know enough about how OS X is built to know where else to look. I think I may have to pop the factory drive back in for now. It's really too bad, because this little thing is running OS X beautifully. But no audio (and no IR sensor, as it turns out) kind of kills the deal.
 
Find out which sound card comes with the :apple:TV (I'm sure that info can be found somewhere online). Then see if there's a mac that uses the same sound card, and try to get those drivers working?

Already tried that. It's a Realtek, but just pulling the kexts for the drivers over doesn't work. The little discussion I've found on the subject seems to indicate that the custom mach_kernel for the ATV contains specialty code for the audio output that isn't covered by any existing kernel extensions.
