I am about to buy an 11" ipad pro, 3rd gen and install it into the cockpit of my aeroplane to run a navigation program. I have researched many of the mounting solutions but the one that will work well is dependent on a 3" suction pad attached to the back of the device (see the image). There is no doubt about its security, it's a Ram Mount and it remains very solidly stuck on the back of my 10" Samsung Tab.
My question is whether there is likely to be any damaging effect to the device by depending on this 3" diameter pad fitted about the middle of the back?
My next choice would be to spread the load by having a 3mm Aluminium plate, say 5" X 8" with several 30mm diameter double sided suckers attached around its perimeter, 4 on each long side and 3 on the short sides and suctioned on to the back of the device. The plate will effectively become the back of the device, carrying the load over a much larger area, onto which the 3" Ram suction pad would then be attached to the articulated arm that connects it to the airframe.
