I have always had very good battery life with my first generation iPhone. I have used it throughout the day and rarely do I see the 20% warning and only once has it been completely drained. The past two days have suddenly been very different, yesterday my battery got down to 10% with very little usage. I thought perhaps I had done something like leave an application running or something that might have caused this. My iPhone received a very lengthy charge over night last night as I slept in today, so I thought for sure my battery would be good to go all day long and still have some to spare. Today I did not really use the iPhone I maybe spent a total of five minutes using different apps throughout the day (checking the calender used the map once) I received one call but did not answer I did not use the phone to talk at all with the exception of listening to a one minute voicemail. Seven hours in my phone gave me the 20% warning, I took the screenshot below and shortly after got the 10% warning. I'm wondering if this is a software issue or if the battery has just reached the end of it's life which would be far shorter than what it should last.

that picture means you been using it for the whole period which I find hard to believe. Try Home + power solution or try restore it.

It's plugged in and charging right now and now shows 8 hours and 19 minutes for both usage and standby. It's odd that it shows that usage since I have hardly used it at all.

I reset the phone and charged it fully. once the charge cycle was complete I took it off the charger and left it in sleep mode to see if it would register a different usage and standby time, after 8 minutes in it is still showing usage during the whole time. If anyone has any ideas what might be causing this the help would be greatly appreciated. I guess my next step will be to do a restore, I'm kinda hoping it doesn't come to that.

Sounds to me like some rogue App or function is constantly running. Restore may be your only recourse. :(

I noticed the same thing one evening. I think it was gone after recharging, perhaps I turned it off too. Was nothing major in my case, looks like some software bug in the power management.

Hmmm, To me it sounds like you may have some type of faulty app running because it seems your phone is stating its being used consistently. I would recommend looking at the applications you have andholding the home button until the application disappears, if you press it once, it puts the application more of in a power saving state but its still running, when you actually hold the home button, until the application disappears, it completely turns it off. See how that works, hope you get it fixed.

Isn't that icon up near the battery the Bluetooth link? Is it maybe searching for a signal constantly?

Have you changed your push (or fetch) settings recently?
I second that. I also have a 1st gen iPhone. Turning on push will cause my iPhone to show constant usage, and (in my case at least) causes my iPhone to go from over 4 days to about 1 day before the 20% warning. I now keep push set to OFF unless I REALLY need it for some reason; it is a real battery killer!
