Early 08 dual 2.8 GHz Quad core, 10 GB RAM, ATI HD 5770 (and HD 2600), 2-2TB HD.

Having sporadic sudden loss of power. It's like you pulled the power plug (not a reset but completely off). It started a couple of weeks ago and can happen from once ever couple of days to several times in an hour. I can push the power button and it will restart. Have been trouble shooting but I'm just barely above shooting in the dark.

1) Changed video card
2) Removed extra HD (so I just have boot & TM)
3) vacuumed cleaned removed RAM and checked by eye, checked all fans
4) Increased fan speeds and carefully watching temps (using iStat).
5) Bypassed UPS, replaced Power Cord, DVI and DisplayPort cables

At wits end and hope someone can look t my logs and tell me what looks to be the problem. Here is the time logs before the last power off and expanded with full info for the last entry.

Thought that may be the problem but hoping not. From the outrages prices ($300 ) I have seen it may not be worth repairing.

You might be able to service the PSU yourself. I have done this a ton of times, and usually it is just the capacitors in the secondaries that have aged and sometimes vented. So just a re-cap usually solves the problem.

Otherwise, yeah, the PSUs are expensive for Mac Pros. There is no point in sourcing a used one either.
