I've never had a problem uploading .jpg images from my M1 iMac to these forums before. Tonight< when I try to add a picture to a post, the picture shows up in the post, as usual, but it doesn't ever actually upload. I normally would get a little popup that says the progress of the upload, until the image is permanently there in the post.

Now, I don't get the popup showing progress. Tried two different photos in two different forums and get the same issue.

Any ideas?

The only time I've seen a problem posting a jpeg is when it was too big. The error wasn't clear either on the site. Is that possibly the problem? I try to keep them at around a meg, a little north or south of that mark.

I just tried to upload a picture that was les than 400KB and it uploaded fine. However, if I tried to upload a picture that was about 750KB it failed. I wonder if there is a limit on total MB of attachments / images on this site and maybe I've hit that limit?

if it's not the file size, you should ask @arn.
I have sent Arn a PM but have not head back. Just as an experiment, I tried uploading the same image from my MBP and it worked. I'm uploading this image here from my M1 iMac, but using a different browser. As you can see, it worked. However, I can't upload pictures from my M1 iMac using Safari, so it seems the issue is related to the SAfari Browser on my M1 iMac.

How are you trying to upload? Drag and drop, attach files, or copy paste? I usually do Attach Files, and I’ve found that as long as your file is under 4mb or so, it will upload. The forum software is going to resize it down from there.

You might also go diving into your cookies and delete the one for MR, sign back in, and give it a try.

I’ve tried all the different ways with same results. It is only my M1 iMac using Safari that won’t work. I can upload images with Opera or Chrome, just not Safari. Safari on my MacBook Pro works fine.

Can you upload to other sites via Safari? If so it would be a Safari issue, not a MR issue. And probably vice versa.

As it happens I run my own Auto-related discussion forum (for over 20 years) and I have no issues at all uploading to that site. I can't be sure, but the issue may have started with the latest update of the OS. I do think you're right - it is probably related specifically to Safari on this M1 computer.

From within Safari on your M1, go to Safari, Preferences, Privacy, Manage Website Data, and then search for MacRumors. Select MacRumors and hit remove (not remove all). Reload MacRumors, login, and try to upload again.

That was one of the first things I tried but didn't solve the issue. Fast forward to this morning. I called Apple Support to see if they could help, and they did the screen sharing with me so I could demonstrate the problem. I jokingly said "just watch, now that I have you on the phone it's going to work." Sure enough, I went to upload a picture that I know had failed to upload in the past and viola, it uploaded just fine! So the issue seems to have resolved itself and I have no clue why. Here is one oof the images that would not upload from this M1 Safari browser before, but now it works:
