Like the title says, I’m looking for a decent TB3 enclosure for a Sabrent 1TB NVMe pci-e 3.0 ssd. It’s a one sided model and has both writing and reading speeds over 3000 mb/s.
I’ve already checked the forum but most of the topics were from previous years. The comments on Amazon are also controversial, so I’m confused now. Since I’ve already got the ssd, I don’t want to buy a new product like Samsung X5.

I’m going to use it as boot drive for a 2017 4K iMac.

Not even close. Thunderbolt 3 is capable of transferring up to 40 Gbps.
40 Gbps = 5 GB/s = 5,120 MB/s
Subtract ~10% protocol overhead and you're left with around 4.5 GB/s.

It's going to be a lot more expensive then just a USB 3.1 Gen 2 enclosure, which will get you 1000 MB/sec for ~$30 USD. Here is a Thunderbolt 3 enclosure that allows for up to 2500 MB/sec but its $130: https://www.amazon.com/Thunderbolt-Enclosure-Shockproof-Aluminum-External/dp/B07VFWBY9B/ref=sr_1_17?crid=34Y7BCXGZ3GYK&keywords=thunderbolt+3+enclosure+for+m.2+nvme+ssd&qid=1575645757&sprefix=thunderbolt+3+enclosure+,aps,172&sr=8-17

Those wanfocyu models don’t seem reliable. Isn’t there any small enclosure from a reputed brand?

Just found out Wavlink UTE02 was sold at 50$ on newegg! Now costs 150$, however on eBay it still on sale at a reasonable price.

Watching this thread with interest and keep us posted on how things go. Waiting and wondering whether to do the same. Stability is holding me back now.

If you don't want to pay the high prices for a thunderbolt3 enclosure, you might consider using a USB3.1 gen2 enclosure for now.

This will limit your top read speeds to about 970MBps, but that's still VERY usable and "the difference" will not be noticeable in most cases.

If and when the tbolt3 enclosure prices come down, the drive can be easily "moved over" into the new case.

I am interested in this enclosure too but found multiple reviews stating disconnection issues with iMacs and Mac Minis :(

Reviving a semi old thread, but wanted to share this guy:

since it's yielded good results with my MPB 16", and a Samsung 1TB 970 Evo SSD.

Alright, I've put a Sabrent Rocket 1TB ssd inside the housing and plugged it to 2017 4K iMac. The results seem not bad;

If anyone comes across this thread, these are two TB3 options available now. Sonnet may have something soon with 4x4 in single enclosure.

I look forward to a day when you can do this sort of thing with some sizable storage in the 8tb range at a somewhat reasonable cost. That would be really nice to have speed and size. I'm not sure that day will ever come though. It seems like solid state storage prices are destined to be forever in the stratosphere at least for large sizes.
