Hello

hi, I have a Mac Pro 4.1 with a GTX670 card.
As I understand, the 670 isn't a good card for FCPX,
can anyone recommend a fussfree card that I can just buy and plug it in.

NO boot screen no problem.

As far as I know Radeon cards works well with FCP. For newer models, you can check out the 7970 ( Flashed ) or 7950 ( flashed or Mac Edition ). Another option would be an older card the Radeon 5870HD

just to confirm, any of those you guys mentioned will work right ? no need to flash or any fancy cable splitting and stuff ?

I'm upgrading to the nMP but ironically, I'm keeping the oMP because I needed to dual DVD burner for delivery, and I might as well keep it as a node for compressor.

BTW, anyone managed to get compressor to run reliably on distributed processing ?

Mine works on and off and it is hard to diagnose what's the fix.

Rob art at Barefeats claimed great results on FCPX with Dual 5770s

I have a 5770 card for free if you want it. PM me if you are interested. I'm trying to reduce the stuff in my house and I'm willing to part with it for free ..... basically to help someone out....like the folks here did for me when I was looking to build a Mac Pro last year. :)

Do you think the 5770 is a significant upgrade from my current GT 120? Sorry, I am new to Mac Pro, so this is not that obvious to me.

Absolutely. You should take him up on the offer!

Thanks cebseb. I don't know how to send a PM. Maybe I am not allowed to, since I am new on this forum. I have one more question. Suppose I am able to get the card from TheHerdForever, will I be better off adding it as a second card, or should I replace my GT 120 with 5770?

TheHerdForever : I cannot PM you, but if you still have the card, let me know if I can get it.

Thanks

You don't have to, but I would definitely keep your old card in a safe place since the new card won't display the gray bootscreen (lack of efi fw). If you ever need to swap boot disks, you'll need to see the boot screen so hold on to the old card for that.

Thank you. I will keep it safe.

I was looking for recommendations on either getting a replacement or upgrading my burned out 5770, and I just came upon this thread. If no one has taken you up on this offer, I would like to. If it has already been taken, no worries, I thought I would check just in case. That was very generous of you!

Best known card to work OOB is MSI R9 280X Gaming 3G. I want to find out if the equivalent 6G will work, but the above is your best bet as of right now (unless you want to get the 6G find out if it works).

hi, are there any cards that will only require 1 power cable ? so I can run 2 of those cards ?

or is the one of the 280 just good enough ?

The above 280 should be good enough, nvidia cards aren't as good for FCP X. I don't know specifically the Open CL performance difference between one 280 and 2 GTX670's though.

By OOB do you mean that you card plug the R9 280X directly into the Mac Pro without any form of flashing first?
