Suggestion For Blu-Ray Drive

I'm having my 2009 iMac replaced and I'm looking at putting in a slot load Blu-Ray drive. Does anyone have any decent suggestions for one?
 
I don't think there are any Blu-ray drives thin enough to fit. Nevermind that Mac OS X is not compatible with Blu-ray.

go onto ebay and look at item number 18064406613, that is a 12.7mm slot loading SATA-II Blu-Ray burner/ player for the imac 2009. i am ordering mine at the end of the month. they are $199.95 but worth it as you keep iMacs 'all in one' look :)
 
ohh and Mac OS X is compatable with burning 100% however watching videos, somthing else is required if i remember correctly :) but like i say im buying mine at the end of the month so i will post upon completion :)

OS X compatibility doesn't concern me.
I spend about 40% of the time in Win 7, and having an internal Blu Ray drive would be nice.

I'm sure someone on here has swapped their 'Super'drive over to a Blu-Ray drive and/or burner. Suggestions?

no bother :)

the first time i asked everyone told me to buy an external because its cheaper... i agree but then you have to think hold on i just spent £1600 on a computer thats all in one and you go add an external blu-ray drive? if you have the cash to splash on a computer like the imac keep it all in one xD

Worst case I get a 5.25" Blu-Ray drive for $90 CAD at Memory Express and get a FireWire 800 5.25 enclosure. Hard part is finding the enclosure.
 
but that will look gash with the lovey imac unibody :p

if you order one let me know, if not am ordering mine at the end of the month like i say :)

Wrong.. and well.. wrong :p

The iMacs use normal slot loading drives that you would also find in a laptop (e.g. the Sony Optiarc drive). So, if you can find a slot loading blu-ray drive, it should work fine. Although, keep in mind slot loading drives do come in different sizes, like 12.7mm and 9.5mm. Look for what the iMac does have and get a replacement drive of the same size.

As for OS X compatibility.. well, I easily read Blu-Ray discs... and burn them... and watch Blu-Ray movies right off the disc too all in OS X :)

nice :) that was my thoughts looking forward to watching blu-ray on that fantastic 27" XHD screen :D
 
If it does work, why don't Apple just stick a blu-ray drive in there from day 1 then?

the same reason they dont want adobe flash on the iPhone, its a 'Steve' issue. because blu-ray is a sony product that apparently hasnt proved its self as a reliable form of media, apple simply wont install it into their hardware. the same reason 3d screens wont be on iphones, ipads or any other mac for at least another 2-3 years.

plus its apples way of saying, use itunes bitches!
 
i have a blu-ray player down stairs, someone sugested using a mini-display port adaptor... but i bought the imac so that it sits in my living room by its self looking all sexy and professional. the internal one will keep it that way :D
 
I ripped my blu ray burner out of my current PC and put it in an external USB enclosure I saw good mac feedback on. I hid that in a different cabinet in my desk and will run a long USB (thanks monoprice!) so it is out of sight. Now I'm just waiting for my imac.

Not really... Apple is even part of the Blu-Ray association - specifically, on the board of directors, a privilege they pay for.

They're just being lazy because the Blu-Ray movie licenses need to be coded into the operating system. Which isn't easy for Apple cause the core OS code is a mess.
 
There only on the board from Pixar. By them not having blu-ray in a mac they have you from the blu-ray media side of things for non mac users and mac users will use iTunes. Trying to make u buy it twice IMO lol.

To defend Apple on this, when you buy most Pixar Blu-Rays, you get a digital copy of the movie included that works on iTunes.
