Dear friends,
I do like the builtin Notes app. It can be "fed" by Siri and I can take notes for it on my iPhone and find them on my Mac (and viceversa of course). So far so good BUT I do miss a few features:
  • Not finding a way to sort/rearrange them in the sequence I'd like. They are only listed by creation date. I'd really need to sort on parameters such as due date or my arbitrary sequence
  • A due date and some other similar field would be good
  • Now this is optional since we're slowly invading the territory of full task/project management software but some simple dependency between task or being able to indent some tasks under a broader one would be cool.
  • It would be necessary to be able to work without an Internet connection and when possible sync between iPhone and Mac
Can you suggest a good fit to these requirements? Thank you very much.

Have you looked at the built in Reminders app? It would seem to hit most of these points for you.

Check out 2Do: https://www.2doapp.com

There are iOS and Mac apps (and Android if that's your thing). It can sync via a number of different methods. You can totally customize how you view your tasks via smart lists. You can start out pretty basic w/it and then go to town.

This one looks very simple but also has an abundance of ways to sort and prioritize.

I'm retired now but when I was working, I had to have a "to do" list to keep everything on track. I grew up in business with the Franklin Covey method. I actually still use a pdf version in Notability to track my little list and take notes.

The subject line asks for a "robust TODO list". But, the opening post suggests that the main focus is note taking; the TODO list features could be minimal and not the main focus.

For example, I consider the Reminders application on the Mac good but inadequate for note taking; the notes are just annotations to the items, not the focus of the item.

I guess I could use a bit of clarity on the OP's desires.

Good point. I interpreted it as the OP using Notes to manage to-do lists, as the basic reminders app didn't allow for enough customizability. But yes, some clarification would help.

If the OP is looking for a cross between Notes and a ToDo app, they might want to look at Agenda: https://www.agenda.com

You can associate notes with projects, dates, calendar events, etc. Each note can have all kinds of content and markup in it, making each note a functional to-do list in its own right.

The free version of the app is pretty functional, and I like the way they do subscriptions - basically, if you sign up for a subscription you get all the paid features + any new ones for the next year. When your subscription ends, you don't lose those features - they keep working. You just don't get any *new* paid features unless you renew (but you'd get any new features they build into the free app, along with the features you paid for).

I was also going to suggest Agenda. It took me a while to figure out how to use it, but once I did, I've used it a lot. Previous versions had some issues with reliability but it seems to have stabilized. It's got a ton of options and fits a niche I haven't quite seen. The iOS and Mac apps are both very good.

I also love the way they do subscriptions. It's a true subscription in that you get to keep what you pay for indefinitely -- versus renting access to the app.

Thank you all for your inputs. The OP is English impaired ;) so please bear with me, it's not only mental confusion. Will start looking at your suggestions and then see if something's amiss.
