What works better when integrating the stock calendar app with an online calendar: Apple iCloud calendar or Google calendar?

I prefer one calendar app on my 6s so I can see both work (from Windows Outlook) and personal calendar (Google) at same time but find when I enter a google calendar reminder on my laptop I don't get any reminder notifications on my phone.

Any suggestions or workarounds? Should I change my personal calendar to the iCloud one?

I think you'll have to set reminders for calendar events at the Google website. You can set defaults there so you don't have to think about it. But...for a specific reminder on a Google event, setting it in your Mac's Calendar app is not going to translate to the Google web calendar and therefore it won't come in on your iPhone.
