Is there a thread on this? I was wondering what kind of upgrades people hope for in the upcoming MBPs.

This site has been very helpful in getting info about the possibility of led screens, blu-ray, etc.

Are there any suggestions for an improved MBP besides the usual upgraded Intel chips?

Because Apple is so insanely secretive on their upcoming products nobody really knows what is going to be updated besides the obligatory CPU upgrade via Intel. There have been rumors of a led backlit screen that's a high probability compared to the other rumors because samsung has come out with the exact same sized 15.4" screen laptops with led backlighting. Supposedly Apple is going to be using Samsung panels on their next revision of MBPs.

i don't think blu ray in a macbook pro is going to happen for a while. what i'm hoping for, not necessarily an upgrade, is a new form factor. the current body has been around for too long. it's time for change.

Heres what I would like to see.

#1 A GOOD screen, evenly lit, no grain, also a 0 dead pixel policy.

#2 Flash memory, instead of a hard drive.

#3 A stiffer case. I feel like I am trying to keep a soda can from denting.

#4 1 year parts & labor and 1 year Technical support. 90 Days is bull. And Im tired of being asked if I want to purchase Apple Care for a mere $350! when Im deaing with my twice broken $2000 laptop.

#5 This is wishful thinking but 24 hour battery life would be awsome.

#6^^^"Induction" charging. Just place your lappy on a special stand.

#7 A remote holder built in with the laptop. It could slide in somewhere. Release with a push of a button.

#8 An LED lit glowing apple, so I can change its color anytime I want.

#9 A true "internet anywhere" card. With a subsciption plan so I can access the internet anywhere without looking for a hot spot. (Built in of course).

#10 Again with the wishes... Free paint Job, any color, mine would have to be Red. Like This.. http://www.colorwarepc.com/

Thats all I got right now. Let me sleep on it. I'm sure I can come up with 10 more.:p

I didn't want to start a new thread to say this so...

Do you think that, after all is said and done, people simple want a laptop that optimizes performance and power consumption. Forget Blu-ray vs HDVD, wireless charging, 802.11n WIFI, Mac OS Leopard. These are all important, but secondary compared to a quality laptop.

If that's true, this leads me to think that MBs and MBPs will be advanced in these three areas:

1. CCFDs to LEDs
2. HDD to NAND FLASH
3. Advanced Intel chips for the future (Penryn, Nehalem, Gesher, and so on)

Advances in these three areas will make MBs and MBPs faster, less prone to breaking (fewer moving parts with flash compared to HDD), thinner (LEDs and Flash drives doesn't use as many parts), and of course cooler.

Everything else is secondary...

I know that once these are implemented there'll probably be something better rumored to come out, but right now, I'm wondering if you guys think the 3 will be implemented by 2008? Obviously, newer Intel chips will come out every year, but what about LEDs and NAND Flash? Opinions?

Maybe my dream of a macbook/macbook pro being an actual "lap" top will become a reality :) :apple: .
