I've decided to upgrade my current two 20" Dell LCD 2001FP normal-width screens. They're getting a bit dull in brightness, so I'll eBay these, and get new ones.

I'm waiting for good deals to show up, but also looking around to see what other models (besides the Dells) that people are using and liking.

Currently, ViewSonic (one of the better monitor companies, IMO) has their VX2025sm ( http://dealnews.com/ ) on sale for $300. I almost snapped two of them up this morning, and the reviews over at Amazon are generally very good, but I don't like that the stands are not adjustable. I'm very tall, and I like my monitors up at eye level. Even with my current stand on my desk, they'd be too low. Also, their bezel is an inch thick. My current Dell's are just below 5/8th of an inch.

Same link above also shows the Dell UltraSharp 2007WFP 20" Widescreen LCD Monitor $367 shipped. If they were in the $300 range, I'd get them in a heartbeat, but I don't think Dell has ever sold them lower than about $350.

Anyone using a 20" LCD that they currently love? I'd actually prefer normal-width monitors to the newer wide screens. But I don't think any manufacturer is selling them any more.

Current setup:

i know NEC is considered to be a cheap brand, but i really like my uncles NEC 20 incher. my personal preference is viewsonic, although my crrent one is the 17" Va712b

You might consider trying to MacRumors Marketplace first. My understanding is that you'll get a better price here (because we're not cutthroat dealers). If the price is right, I might take you up on one.

NEC may seem cheap but it really a good brand. A lot of computer hardware starts out as an NEC product. If you home built computers enough you learn that NEC is one of the best brands to go with.

Part of the reason they are cheaper is they are the orginal maker. Not some some one rebranding it and marking it up more.

They make some quiltily stuff. Cheaper because of the lack of rebranding by others who everyone knows the name of (Sony, Pinoneer, and so on. Most of those name brands at one point or another where use NEC products and selling them.)

Don't know if this will interest you at all since its 19", but I came across this at BestBuy yesterday. Was actually going to make a separate thread about it to give others a heads up if they were interested.

Samsung 19" with a white bezel

IMO its a killer price, considering the original price was over $400. I asked why so cheap and was told they aren't carrying it any more. I don't know if white wasn't popular or what. I wanted a white lcd to go with my new mini, and couldn't find one, so ended up going with silver. The one I bought is boxed up and set to be returned today after work. :)

Why *exactly* are you getting new monitors? You say the current ones you have are "getting a bit dull in brightness", but actually would prefer the aspect ratio (1600 x 1200) to the new wide-aspect ratio...

Well, interestingly, a couple of months ago, after a lot of research I bought exactly the monitor you have, the 20.1" 2001 FP. Fact is, it's larger than the wide ones (more pixels), and I find it more versatile.. i run FCP 4.5 HD on it, Logic and various word processing programs, plus surf the web etc. I find this size and aspect ratio optimal.

If yours are getting "dull" why not just buy new 2001 FP? Like I said, I just bought mine a couple of months ago for $370 brand new from Dell, and it's perfect. Of course, you may have other reasons, but you didn't give them (that I could see :))

I just picked up a 19" Acer widescreen at buy.com for $183. I thought it was an incredible buy.
