Guys I've been googling all over the internets for a solution to my sunken lock/sleep button.

And unfortunately it seems that the only solution that people are proposing is to have my 3gs exchanged at the Apple store. The problem is that I am not an AT&T customer and haven't been in about 4 years.

I don't really know anybody with AT&T as well. Can I get some advice on what to do now? Does the Apple store check to see if you have an account with AT&T or anything like that or do I just bring in my iphone for them to troubleshoot.

Thanks

They ask for your phone number, yes, so they expect you to have AT&T. If they replace your phone, they will also remove your SIM card and put it in the new phone.

I've had phones replaced at the Apple store twice. Neither time did they ask for the phone number (nor did the Genius look on the phone for the number), but he did swap the SIM, presumably to make sure the replacement powered up correctly.

That first answer is a alot of crap. They don't expect you to be on any network. What if it was someone living in europe but home on holiday? and they had an iPhone with a european carrier. They only care that it is within the warranty time.
