I was thinking between that and Crash. I chose Crash since even after I beat the game I know I'll want to play it again just to race.

There's also Zen Pinball $4.99, I'm looking forward to downloading, but I'm at work and only have EDGE :(

In short: no.

It is WAY too hard, and you have to listen to the music on the game, if your going down the road listening to music and want to play it the music will turn off. If I had the option of buying it again I wouldn't, it too hard to control (way too sensitive) and to keep the ball still you have to hold the phone at an awkward angle (imo)

I dunno if it's worth $10. Maybe $7.

It was fun for a while, it takes a little bit of time at the beginning to learn the controls well. I got up to the desert levels.

Short answer. HELL YES.

This game is not too hard to control. People who tell you that just haven't sat around and played with it enough. Once you get used to it, its actually quite inituitive. You have to remember, you aren't controlling the monkey, just the platform.

The first 10 levels took me FOREVER to get past, but I just kept at it. I've gotten to like level 51, each island has 20 levels, 10 easy and 10 hard, and I'm on hard on the third island. But I've replayed the first levels several times demoing it to people and I can beat the first 20 levels without dying at all.

It requires slight movements most of the time. People who are crazily moving the controller will have problems. It's a beautiful game and really fun once you get the hang of it. It just requires patience, but if it was so easy you could beat all 110 levels in one sitting, what would the point be?

This post is EXACTLY what I've been trying to tell everyone who has doubts about SMB. And I've finished the game. And enjoy quick play. I would make that my sig but its too long lol. And just to add something -> the frame rate of SMB is amazingly good for the great graphics.

Great graphics for the backgrounds, horrible cheesy 2D monkey locked in the center of the screen. I wouldn't even mind him being 2D much, except he has very few frames of animation, including very few degrees of rotation.

As for the controls, I'd wait for the update, the controls are missing one key thing (that was in the Wii version) which just makes the game incredibly frustrating unless you are willing to put in an hour or two of just training yourself. What they are missing is a dead-zone, where you have to tilt the device a little bit before it starts registering the tilt. If they had a small dead zone at what the game considers level, it would be MUCH more fun to play without the frustrating time of getting used to the controls.

I do think the game is worth $10, I'd just wait until they fix it.

thats not true, you can turn all of the sound off in the game and then double click home then hit play and your music will play. but to the OP, i think it's worth it. yes, the controls or horrible and very sensitive, but there should be an update out soon to fix it. and it has nice graphics and gameplay.

Just to possibly correct something. I was assuming there would be an update for SMB. I have no proof that there is going to be one...does anyone have any links that say they are looking at the feedback for the control issues.
For those who have mastered the control, grats to ya, I will have to try thinking of controlling the platform, might help. Other than that, it not apparently a casual game if can't pick up the controls in bout 45 minutes of play. How long does one have to wait tell we get the the big channels like they show in the screenshots?

It is a fun game and even though hard, I'm glad I bought it. However, do I think its WORTH $10? No. I wouldn't buy the game if I was going to the store to look for a computer game for instance, but due to the limited amount of free or cheap games that are actually good for the iphone, I bought it. Overpriced (IMHO), but still fun.

It's worth the money, you just need to get use to the controls. It took me a week to finally get use to the controls.

Definitely not to me. The controls are a pain in the @ss to get a hold of, to the point where you want to throw the dam thing out the window. Crash Bandicoot is what you should get. Fantastic example of how the accelerometer SHOULD work on the iPhone.

I don't think it was worth the 10 bucks. Like others said it is too hard to control and the angle isn't flat to keep the ball still, it is slightly leaned toward you, makes it hard to find.

Of all the games so far I have to say trism (http://appstorefeed.com/apps/Trism/) is the best one out now. It's a puzzle game that incorporates touch (to move the pieces) and motion (to determine where they will fall to fill in the gaps). You basically just match the triangles up by color but there are obstacles that come up and combinations to score more points.

If you're looking for something to kill time the $5 bucks is better spent on this than on super monkey ball in my opinion.

Yes, it's completely worth the money. The graphics are probably the best I've seen on the iPhone, and it is very addicting.

Agree 100%. Super Monkey Ball is ok, but I don't want to buy a game for a mobile device that I have to train myself to play. I'm all for challenging levels and the like, but the controls are way too finicky and simply do not seem to respond as they should when you want to turn. Once you get passed the learning curve, SMB can be fun, sure... but I don't think it's worth $10. Maybe $7 or $8 at the most.

Trism is definitely a good time-passing game and totally worth the $5 that it costs. It has its own set of in-game achievements, which adds an extra level of fun, coming from gaming on an Xbox 360 where achievements are a big part of the games. I wanted to buy bejeweled, but again, what's with the $10 price point on these games? You can't even buy a handful of games before you're emptying your wallet. Lower the price, and it'll be much easier to buy something on impulse.

I decided to choose one $10 racing app from between Super Monkey Ball, Crash Bandicoot and Moto Racer. Went with Crash and have been pleased with how it works. Not sure that any of them are worth the full $10, but what the hey. Of the 3, I think Crash looks and works the best, but YMMV. :apple:

Those of us who play real games can see through the holes in Monkey Ball, like its half assed rendering of the monkey for example. Why did they use a 2D sprite rather than a full 3D model if, as many have claimed, iPhone is as powerful as Dreamcast?

The controls are awful, I really resent this new era of motion control and it proves to me that iPhone really isn't suited to being a gaming device unless you're playing a basic touch screen game.

At £5.99 I'm gonna have to say no too, you can get the Gamecube version of Super Monkey Ball 2 for that price and it's FAR superior.

Super monkey Ball is a good game but can be very hard to play, especially for me. Perhaps I am just no good at playing games or the accelerometer controls need fine tuning.
