Super quick question on installing via usb

Hey guys, I ordered an SSD (samsung 830) and it should be here in a couple days. I just want to know if I can replace my current HDD and install via USB flash drive with no problems (i'll just make a bootable drive out of a 16 gig drive with mountain lion on it)

Will this work if I boot from the USB drive? I just can't figure it out because there obviously won't be any OS installed at the time so I'd like to know in advance if I'd have any issues.

Last week I also put in an 830 SSD and put my current SSD into a SATA-USB converter and booted up OS X like off my old SSD that to transfer files.

But I'm not sure if that's what you're asking...

If you're asking about doing a clean ML install from a USB, then yes you can but you need the ML .iso or .dmg

No I just want to replace the HDD and start brand new. Will it work to just put in the new drive and boot up from the usb drive or is there something I need to do first?

If you have already made yourself a ML USB install key, then yes... just install the SSD, then plug in the USB key and option key boot to the USB key. At the install screen start Disk Utility and format the SSD to Mac OS Extended. Quit Disk Utility then install Mountain Lion.

After the first boot to ML on the SSD, go into System Preferences and under Startup Disk select the SSD.

Of course, this does not get any of your data on the SSD. This just gives you a new install of Mountain Lion only on the SSD.
