I went to burn a disc on my iMac 2.66 and when I went to put in the disc it just plopped in without loading.
I was able to retrieve the disc with tweezers.
I went to the System Profiler and clicked "disc burning" and it says no drives found.
I repaired permissions and restarted. Anybody else experience something like this? I have only had it since December.
Is my next step calling Apple? I am 120 miles from the nearest Apple Store.

Thanks.

Yes. My friend's iMac and its Super Drive are not the best of friends, she had to get her's replaced after the eating disk problem. I really hoped that your Super Drive actually disappeared.

Hungry Hungry Hippos SUPERDRIVES!
Give AppleCare a call.

Their website says I am not eligible for phone support :-(
I do have hardware support until December however. I just wanted to know if anybody had any good ideas to try before making the trip to the Apple store.

Thanks

Send them an e-mail? Call to the store? They will not give you support on phone for free anymore but I think they'll not charge you if you only want to send it to repair

Fixed

I did a simple SMC reset (unplug EVERYTHING from computer, wait 30 seconds).
This resolved it. The drive now shows up in the profiler and accepts my discs!

Just in case it happens again. You can always try calling phone support, even if you are not eligible any more. Some of the guys their are pretty helpful and won't even ask ;)
