i ordered a new mini and a superdrive. the superdrive got here first. i plugged it into my 07 macbook pro (which has a busted optical drive inside it). to my surprise it doesn't work. *****? i plugged it into my 08 vaio (which has a blue ray burner inside it that still works perfectly) and still nothing. what? apparently its locked from working on anything but mac's w/o internal drives. why? apparently because they want me to return it. it also helped me to make up my mind about the apple keyboard i've been on the fence about buying. for 10 bucks more i will take the samsung blue ray burner that works with anything that has a usb drive. i know apple hates blue ray but i think at least windows on bootcamp should be able to utilize it.

It does not work because neither your old MacBook nor the Vaio deliver enough energy through the USB-Port. Didn't you notice that other external CD-drives require a separate powerplug?

Newer Macs (like your mini) output more voltage through the USB-ports.
