Guys,

I own an Imac and a Macbook, both with superdrive, is there any way to converte superdrive onto a multizone?

thanks

Juan

Sorry, not anymore... On the old Pioneer drives it was a piece of cake, but now... these new ones, are not possible. No one makes the firmware to the mac anymore.

Sadly...

I wish someone had a firmware for my MATSHITA DVD-R UJ-846 so I can play region free. But I cannot. Stuck and stuck..

Lame if you think about it. If you own a Laptop and travel from country to country, should a laptop then be region free?

Region Free SuperDrive

You are so right. A film auteur who has to attend all of the various cinema events around the world needs a laptop that can freely play all the regions from the North America to Europe to Asia and beyond. As it is, one only has five changes before the SuperDrive is locked into one region. Absolutely ridiculous. Very unprofessional. In this sense, it is misleading to call something a Mac Book 'Pro'.

Vlc

It won't convert your drives, but if you just want to see DVDs use VLC. It bypasses any region locks.:) Well any region locks I have encountered.

VLC... not!

Unfortunately, even with VLC, you are unable to read dvds from other regions on newer Macs.
Sad fact, but true. Apple found a way to prevent even VLC from functioning on portable Macs that came after the last revision PB G4.

Bummer

Nice to hear a fellow user express the word auteur in connection to films. ;)

I think we, in the business should write a personal letter to Steve Jobs, and ask him to give us the option to have a build to order MacBook Pro that has a region free driver.

I mean, we work with films and it happens to be a big part of what Apple likes to promote to us at their expos, so why not give us the option to get a region free Laptop too?

They can ask 15 to 25 bucks to have it unlocked. And I for one would love to have that option. See, when we are at any airport in the world they do sell DVDs, and it is often the country's own region they sell, but in case you have flown 4 days promoting something and you ran out of movies to watch and you happen to find something you would like to watch then why can't we have that option given to us? We have international customer service on our laptops, we even have an international power supply box we can buy as an addition to our laptop, but the main dvd driver is region locked...

We should really do something about this. It makes no sense.
