I am having issue with my super drive ever since I installed Mountain Lion. It can be detected by the OS but will keep ejecting any disc I put in. The drive is working condition. I tested it by hooking it up to my Win7 machine and it works fine. Any ideas??

Hi,

Sounds like an issue with the kext or plist controlling the superdrive. Even though this is chancy, but did you try a different type of disc media? Sometimes certain media will be spat out of the drive. This has happened to me once until I got better quality disc medium.

If that is not the issue, I would recommend trying to re-install Mountain Lion. Did this symptom happen when you FIRST installed ML? Sounds like a corrupt kext or plist somewhere.

It happen when I tried to reinstall win 7 using parallel. The disc is readable by window machine but not my mac pro with mountain lion :(
Try other blank dvd, no luck.

Ok, did you use Windows to make the DVD of Windows 7? Its possible that the disc is in PC format and can't be read on the Mac unless you have NTFS utilities which allow disk utility to read PC only based discs.. But what is strange is that I can read my copy of Windows 7 on my Mac Pro, though I am running Snow Leopard(Lion was a waste, though I have it).

This is indeed odd.. it reads under Windows, but not under ML. Question: Before you installed ML, was it working under Snow and or Lion?

Again, your best bet is to try and re-install just the BASE OS files of ML. There is no need to wipe your drive clean, as if you made a disc or USB thumb drive installer of ML you should be able to just re-install it.

So I install the super drive into the win7 machine and works with no issue. install another dvd drive in the Mac Pro. Detected but will not read or write. Am I the only one having this issue?

Im having the same issue after ML Update. Drive was working till update. Also, the update was made using a DVD in the drive. After update, the drive just wont accept any media. It just spits the DVD/ CD out instantly.

Super Drive Rejects DVD 10.13.2012

Have Mac Mini about 4 months old and outboard SuperDrive. All of a sudden it will not take DVD'd rejects all, Got apple to replace same
yet no change...re-installed 10.8 with out minor updates...no change.
Apple is getting like Microsoft...What is the solution...?
apple does not know...told they are getting this complaint.

Same here, just got it after installing ML. No superdrive response and trying to go into CD/DVD system prefs, hangs system prefs until I force quit them.

Do you have a bootable DVD that you can insert during power up and hold the Option key to see if it recognizes it? If so, does it eject it as soon as the OS loads?
