I have a older, circa 2007, MBP that I just started having some issues with. The superdrive is unable to read or recognize any DVDs, regardless of the format or what's on them. It will read and burn CDs just fine; it's just DVDs that it has a problem with. Has this happened to anyone else, and how did you resolve this issue? It won't recognize my SL disk, so I can't even reinstall SL!

The MacBookPro SuperDrive

I have a TiBook G4 and a MacBook Pro 3.1. I bought the TiBook off of Ebay and within six months the SuperDrive became flaky and quit. I bought a replacement from OWC and it now runs fine. I did some research and it seems the failure of the SuperDrive after a year or two is common. My MBP now has the exact same problem as your Mac. The only cure is performing (or paying someone else to perform) a SuperDrivectomy. Your Mac needs a SuperDrive transplant. Sorry. My replacement looks like the hardware will cost about $150.00.
