Hey guys, Wondering if you can help me...

Since installing Lion on my 2009 Mac mini the SuperDrive has stopped working. I have tried inserting a wide variety of CDs and DVDs into it (official and home burnt). The SuperDrive takes in the disc, sounds like it is attempting to read it for about 45 seconds and then automatically ejects the CD/DVD.

I have also updated the latest software update on my Mac.

I'm really confused as to why this has stopped working. If someone can help me I would really appreciate it.

Spec of machine:
2ghz
4gb Ram (upgraded)
320gb (upgraded)

Thanks

DO you have a backup of the snow leopard osx on a hard drive? If you do boot into snow leopard and see if the optical drive works. If you don't have a Copy of snow leopard on a hdd troubleshooting will be far more difficult.

No I don't. I only have OS X Lion on this system.

I searched on the net and other people seem to be having the same problem so I don't think it is conincidental that since the Lion installed the SuperDrive has been having problems.

I would love to know how to fix this issue.

Update: It seems to read blank CDs fine and makes a normal sound while 'reading' the disc. I've tried official Apple discs which came with the machine and still no luck.

Next course of action?

find an hdd with snow leopard on it.

plug it into the mac mini and run snow leopard.

you need to go back to snow leopard to trobleshoot.

as an alternative forget about the internal dvd and buy a cheap external dvd

player. this is a lion software issue with no fix except for a work around. maybe apple will issue a patch for it
