i feel retarded asking this
but i've never had a superdrive--

(i have done some research- but never really understood anything i read)

so-
i'm gettin a mac mini 1.42 PPC
w/ a superdrive

i want to backup some of my music (most of it)
and have the ability to back up other things as need be (text files, photos)

what kind of DVD media do i want to get?
dvd +
dvd -
what is the 'real' difference?

what if i wanted to make an imovie- and play it on my normal dvd player?
what disk then?

thanks in advance

I use DVD-R ...when I asked around that was the most popular response.

I was told that is the best/most widely accepted for movie DVDs, and also works good for data.

Most any DVD player or DVD drive will read either one. I use DVD-R because my cheap-ass Norcent DVD player only read a certain kind of DVD-R's. Shouldn't really matter, though. I say go with whatever you find cheap!

You can't even get DVD+R at many places anymore....DVD-R is more affordable and tends to be more compatible.

I would stay away from Memorex though...I've had quite a few problems with both their CD and their DVD media on the superdrive on my iMac...

Your superdrive probably will burn DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW.

..and to add to that always stick with brand name media. I have had bad experiences as well with no name brands or el cheapo DVD. I only use TDK DVD's. I have never tried Apple Branded Media.

Make sure that your DVD's are compatible with the speed you are burning. Hence don't burn a DVD at 16X if your Media only allows for 8X.

Check all your players what kind of media they play/ or prefer.

uh oh. Memorex was bad for you? What happened? I'm currently having problems burning to DVD-R & DVD+R from iDVD. I'm on a powerbook G4.

What brand do you prefer?
