Other than the convienience of having a built in Superdrive.
Will an external Plextor px-716uf duel DVD writer be able to burn and work with Mac programs, just as well as a Superdrive on a macbook?

or will I be more limited with the external DVD writer?

You will get higher burn speeds with that external Dual layer burner, over the macbook's 4x single layer burner.

the external will be a much better burner - in my opinion, the superdrive's kind of suck.

BUT if you ever want to consider reselling your MB, having the superdrive will be more attractive to future buyers (i don't know if this is important to you - i tend to like to be able to sell/trade my current machine in order to get a newer one).
