I have been noticing a high-pitched, annoying whining noice from my 17 inch iMac's Superdrive. This occurs at low speeds(I chose to burn a birn folder that has important stuff on there so I wanted it 2 be relaible by burning at low sppeds). This worrys me because mybeautiful iMac is well-beautiful. This is my first mac, love it too much for this 2 happen :(

Is this only happening at low burn speeds? Is it in all apps or just Finder? Personally, I wouldn't worry too much about it. Most optical drives make a bit of noise as they burn. :)

Yeah, but this isn't only while burning, it is whille reading too. Low read speeds, low burn speeds. Its not that it bugs the crap out of me, but it makes me worry. i made the worst mistake a person could make. Not buy AppleCare! Dun

If it's an Intel iMac then it'll be young enough to still be covered by Apple's standard warranty. Give them a call or take it in if you feel it's not performing as you'd hoped. :)

Yeah, I kinda agree with calebjohnston. It's just normal for these drives to make noise. Having said that, perhaps your makes substantially more noise than you'd expect so perhaps it is worthwhile taking it in. It's up to you.

Oh, and kids, lay back on the language attacks, okay? :)
