Hello,

I am upgrading the hd on my new/used laptop...

how do you use super duper to make a duplicate of my laptops old hd, and then replace onto the new hd in my laptop?

thanks,
r.

is that worded correctly?

you will need an external HD to copy your old HD and then copy back from the external to your newly installed HD or oyu could remove your old HD and put it in an 2.5" external enclosure.

yes, thanks...

but what type of file do i make the backup of the hard drive? as a disk image?

and do i just drop the disk image onto the new hard drive?

r.

if you want to make sure you have everything, just use CarbonCopyCloner to make an exact bootable copy of your system on your external HD, install your new internal HD. plug your external and boot from it then use again CCC to clone back.
