SuperDuper clone is 60gb less

I've tried to make a 1:1 copy of my SDD. I used SuperDuper (newst version).

However, when it was finished, the clone was only 382GB in size, while the original was 439GB. Thats almost 60GB that didn't get copied.

The log said this:

I can't find any direct differences, when I manually check, but before I wipe my laptop, I want to be sure.

Apparently, the size issue relates to the size & configurable space available on the target volume. It is not that SD! is somehow compressing your data.

A note to the developer or a post on his forum will provide the detail you seek (as well as a better explanation than mine).

FWIW, the developer almost always responds within 24 hours, usually less-

A suggestion offered for experimental purposes only.

You can download CarbonCopyCloner for free, and use it free for 30 days with all functions enabled.

You might try this, and use CCC to create a clone, just to see if the result is the same size as the clone created by SuperDuper.

If BOTH of the clones are closely-comparable in size, I wouldn't worry about it.

From that log it looks like the app ignores (does not copy) most all of the cache and swap file areas, so that could account for this difference. If you want to experiment a little bit, you can use the below command in Terminal to see how big some of those ignored folders are. Here are a couple to start out with that were on the ignore list.

That first one is deleted Time Machine local snapshots and can be pretty big.

SuperDuper only clones whats necessary, the clone image will always generally be smaller than the source. I use the App extensively and have never had an issue in the event of restoring a drive, albeit infrequently.

Cache files, Swap files, Hibernation files etc. are excluded by default as they are not required to ensure operation of the clone image, what the OP is observing is perfectly normal.

OP if your concerned, simply boot from the external clone drive, you will see that all functionality is retained; System Preferences - Startup Disk.
