About five years ago I had an iPhone and always used dictation instead of typing things out on the keyboard. Dictation seemed to work pretty well, although there were a few words I had to go back in and correct before sending the text onto its destination. Today I have an iPhone 13 and an iPad 9th generation, both fully updated. It seems lately dictation will insert it a comma where it doesn’t belong and I didn't say the word “comma”. Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there a setting I missed somewhere? Other than the commas here and there voice recognition still amazes me and works pretty well.

Dictation in iOS 17 was updated to use auto punctuation without having you need to say "comma", "period", etc. I haven't had this problem but sounds like you might benefit from turning this off. Settings -> General -> Keyboard -> turn off Auto-Punctuation.

OK I see what happened, iOS has been updating over time but my brain is still stuck in iOS 13 - I’m still saying “comma”, ”period”, etc. I will turn off auto punctuation and see how that works for me. Thank you very much!

That seems to have fixed the problem. Thank you iStorm!
