I just bought a 3g iPhone and tried inserting the supplied headphones but I really have to put some force behind them to get them to fully insert into the jack (where the white jacket part of the jack is flush with the iPhone).

It is also very difficult to remove the jack.

Is this normal?

I guess so. My old iphone headphones take some effort to put them in and take them out. I think this is the trade-off of having a flush headphone jack (which, imho, is much better than the stupid recessed one on the old phone).

I have the same thing with my headphones. I'm using a different pair of headphones now, and they take a little more effort that usual, and than what I had to use for my ipod classic.
